How to Make
Hand Painted Shirts
The first step to making hand
painted shirts is to choose a fabric. I chose 100% cotton because it was cheap
and durable. Next, cut out two pieces of fabric. One piece should be slightly
larger than the other. This will allow you to fold the smaller piece over the
larger piece and sew it together. Then, iron the seams flat. Now, take the
larger piece of fabric and place it right side down on top of the smaller
piece. Iron the edges of the fabric together. Once this is done, flip the shirt
inside out and iron the seam again. Repeat this step until you have sewn all
four sides of the shirt.
Paint the Fabric
Now that the fabric is ready,
it's time to paint it! First, mix up some acrylic paint using water and white
vinegar. Add a few drops of yellow paint to give the shirt a little color. Use
a brush to apply the paint to the entire shirt. Let the paint dry completely
before moving on to the next step.
Cut Out the Design
Once the paint is dry, it's
time to cut out the design. Using scissors, carefully cut out the design from
the fabric. Be careful not to cut into the paint. After cutting out the design,
cut off any extra fabric around the edges.
Sew the Design onto the Fabric
Sewing the design onto the fabric
is very important. It gives the finished product a professional look. To do
this, lay the fabric face down on a table. Place the design face down on top of
the fabric. Pin the design in place. Then, stitch the design into the fabric by
sewing through both layers of material. Remove the pins after stitching is
complete.
